These are half-moon shaped pieces of elastic marshmallow coated in chocolate. Their Flemish name, boerentenen, refers plainly to the shape, as is often the case with sweets in our region. The marshmallow here is firmer and more elastic than in our chocolate marshmallows, so you chew it longer rather than having it melt away at once. That makes them a sweet that lasts and stays recognisable generation after generation.
