Cachou is an artisanal hard boiled sugar sweet with a mint flavour, recognisable by its small, brown diamond shape. The size is deliberately compact: a single cachou is enough to freshen the mouth, and the hard sugar dissolves slowly so the mint flavour lingers. Its dark colour and distinctive shape make it instantly recognisable among other sweets. Cachou has long been the sweet people reached for after coffee or while out and about, precisely because it slips discreetly into a pocket and freshens the breath.
